We’re high up and the fields lower down. We think they’ve taken some of the soil away. <br/><br/>“We think it’s the vibration of the machinery that’s caused the problems. <br/><br/>“The vibration of the machinery has shaken the earth around the garden. <br/><br/>“I could just see a crack in the ground. It wouldn’t stop.<br/><br/>“It’s a civil engineering job. If they don’t do anything about it, it’ll fall in the field.” <br/><br/>Linda Jackson, 74, who lives on the street with her husband Richard, 76, said: “Our concern is because they’ve dug away the bank and left a 15ft drop from <br/>our garden, we’re concerned that the same thing will happen to us and our lawn will fall away. <br/><br/>“Apparently they’re going to build a retaining wall but no one has been here to communicate that with us. We just pick bits up here and there. <br/><br/>“Our garden could slip away. It’s a significant drop. When I walked down there I couldn't believe it. <br/><br/>“We were overlooking the field but now we’re overlooking a building site. <br/><br/>“We don't have a right to a view, but we have a right to know what’s going on. <br/><br/>“What I would particularly like is some assurance as to what’s happening. <br/><br/>“We’ve been living here since they were built 50 years ago and nothing like this has ever happened before.<br/><br/>“Most of the people around here are retired. We’ve had our garden landscaped, so if it disappeared into the field it would be very upsetting. <br/><br/>“We’ve had a lot of rain but that hasn’t caused the issue before. <br/><br/>“The noise and the dust is incredible. <br/><br/>“I can’t put white sheets outside because the air is full of dust. ![The top 30 simple things that make us smile include a kind gesture from a stranger, waking up on a sunny morning – and seeing an elderly couple holding hands.<br/><br/>A study of 2,000 adults found seeing a loved one get good news, receiving a surprise gift and getting a hug also feature on the list.<br/><br/>While others experience the same joy after getting into bed with freshly washed sheets, seeing an old friend and watching a puppy.<br/><br/>But for 46 per cent of people, simply having someone smile at you makes you feel happy, with 65 per cent of adults saying that it improves their mood.<br/><br/>That positive boost lasts for an average of more than 13 minutes, leaving them more likely to be kinder to others (37 per cent), more motivated (19 per cent) or make a bold decision (nine per cent).<br/><br/>Bupa Dental Care [https://www.bupa.co.uk/dental/dental-care] commissioned the research as part of National Smile Month, to highlight the benefits the friendly gesture can have.<br/><br/>However, an experiment saw just 21 per cent of adults return the friendly gesture from a stranger.<br/><br/>During a two-hour period, actress Zara Naeem smiled at 112 different people as they walked past her - _we-built-the-world39s-only-bugatti-aerolithe.webp "AFTER vanishing off the face of the Earth in 1936, with no clue as to its whereabouts, the one of a kind Bugatti Aerolithe has been rebuilt. The car originally debuted at the Earl’s Court Motor Show in the UK in 1935, but after its disappearance, all trace it ever existed lay in just a few photos and some blueprints of the brake pedal and radiator grill. These limitations didn’t stop classic car fanatic David Grainger and his team at The Guild of Automotive Restorers, who painstakingly rebuilt the lost car on a modified Bugatti Type 57 chassis. Using the blueprint of the radiator grill, David and his team worked out the exact dimensions, to the millimetre, of the car and then proceeded to sculpt the body using magnesium, as was done on the original. The magnesium sheets make the car extremely light and therefore increase its top speed. However, the sheets are by no means cheap, costing David around $3,000 each, of which the Bugatti Aerolithe needed 15 for its rebirth. Recreating the body wasn’t the only challenge. David needed to rebuild, from scratch, the tyres to replicate the white walled Dunlop’s on the original car, as they are no longer in production. David’s team skillfully produced identical replicas of the wheels and the Bugatti Aerolithe now stands exactly as it did before, complete with fixed windows and manual brakes.")
