_shocking-moment-staff-member-punches-a-teenage-linesman-to-the-floor-in-a-sudden-mid-game-attack.webp "Shocking footage has emerged capturing the moment that a young linesman was punched in the face by a staff member from a rival football team in North Wales. <br/><br/>The North Wales Coast Football Association match at Amlwch Town saw Clwb Pêl-Droed Penrhyndeudraeth put eight past the hosts in a hugely one-sided affair, however things turned sour soon after the whistle first blew. <br/><br/>With one of the visiting players serving voluntarily as the linesman for the league clash, a figure from the Amlwch staff appeared to strike the player after just 15 minutes of action. <br/><br/>Video footage shows the stunning moment, with two crossing paths on the touchline. <br/><br/>It is not clear whether anything is said between the two, before the Amlwch figure steps up and aims a blow at the linesman's chin, sending him to the ground. <br/><br/>Seemingly stunned for a few seconds, the linesman gets back to his feet as the staff member returns to their bench before Penrhyn boss Riccardo Pellegrino comes over and helps his player up to his feet. <br/><br/>The rest of the Penrhyn squad then come running over to the scene, but Pellegrino prevents any conflict by ushering them away, though the team remains nearby. <br/><br/>One of Pellegrino's assistants appears to talk to the figure that aimed the punch in a bid to calm him down, while other players from the home bench then walk over. <br/><br/>The shocking attack has been reported to North Wales Police, as reported by both the NWCFA and Penrhyn. <br/><br/>The club's statement read: 'A fantastic result and performance from the lads today.<br/><br/>'Unfortunately, the game was marred by an incident which occurred approximately 15 minutes into the game when a Penrhyn player, acting as a voluntary linesman, was assaulted. <br/><br/>'The Club will not be making any further comments but will support the player as the matter has been reported to the police.'<br/><br/>The NWCFA added: 'The North Wales Coast Football Association (NWCFA) is aware of a video circulating on social media about an incident at Amlwch Town FC. This incident is currently being investigated by the police, to which the NWCFA has requested details.<br/><br/>'Whilst this is an ongoing investigation, we would urge people not to share the video or comment as this could impact any investigation.<br/><br/>'The incident will be investigated accordingly on conclusion of the police investigation.'<br/><br/>Penrhyn would go on to win the game 8-0 in a dominant showing in the amateur clash.<br/><br/>Cai Henshaw netted four in the hefty win, while Tom Hughes netted twice and Deio Hughes and Gwion Davis got the other two. <br/><br/>Pellegrino added on Facebook after the incident: 'Your behavior on the pitch after what happened was impeccable, I'm proud to coach this fantastic group of lads.<br/><br/>'I’m proud of all of you COYC.'<br/><br/>The Wales FA CEO confirmed on social media that they are aware of the incident and have condemned the attack.<br/><br/>North Wales Police said: 'We can confirm that we are currently investigating an assault which occurred at Amlwch Town FC’s grounds on Saturday, April 27th")

_stv-strike-action-in-glasgow.webp "Union ‘optimistic’ as STV staff go on strike for second time in pay dispute<br/>NUJ members at STV are seeking a 6% pay rise.<br/><br/>More talks with management are expected after STV journalists walked out on strike for a second time in a dispute over pay, a union organiser has said.<br/><br/>The National Union of Journalists (NUJ) is seeking a 6% pay rise for members at broadcaster STV to “keep pace with inflation” during the cost-of-living crisis.<br/><br/>NUJ representatives and staff attended the STV annual general meeting (AGM) in Glasgow on Wednesday where they put questions about the dispute to the board.<br/><br/>Nick McGowan-Lowe, NUJ national organiser for Scotland, said they are optimistic the industrial action and attendance at the AGM has “had the desired effect” and said that more talks with management are now planned.<br/><br/>The action by NUJ members at STV across Scotland will disrupt news programming on Wednesday, with the flagship STV News At Six programme due to be replaced by Sean’s Scotland, and network show Peston aired in place of Scotland Tonight.<br/><br/>Mr McGowan-Lowe said there was a “strong” presence on the picket line in Glasgow, where staff were joined by colleagues who had travelled from Dundee and Edinburgh.<br/><br/>He said: “We put questions to the board about the dispute highlighting that, and as a result both the chair and the chief executive have committed to get back into talks as soon as possible.<br/><br/>“At the moment the next step is more talks to moving towards a resolution so we remain optimistic that today’s strike action and attendance at the AGM has had the desired effect.<br/><br/>“I really think we showed our strength today and I’m hoping that management at STV have understood that they need to take control of this dispute and sit round the table to work out an agreement.”<br/><br/>The strike comes after union members walked out for 24 hours on March 28 and the latest pay offer put forward by the company was rejected by staff.<br/>NUJ members at STV around the country including Inverness, Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Dundee and Glasgow walked out for 24 hours on Wednesday.<br/><br/>On the picket line in Glasgow they held banners calling for “Fair pay for journalists” and “Fair pay now”.<br/><br/>An STV spokesperson said: “STV has always been open to dialogue and today both our chair and chief executive reiterated the company’s willingness to continue discussions and hope for a swift resolution.”<br/><br/>The company added: “We’re disappointed that following discussions and an enhanced offer being made, members of the NUJ have decided to proceed with strike action on May 1.<br/><br/>“We understand that almost half of NUJ members voted to accept the enhanced offer, which included a bonus payment for all STV staff.<br/><br/>“We remain open to further dialogue but the NUJ’s claim for an above inflation pay increase of 6% – nearly twice the current level of inflation – is unrealistic and unaffordable. We have made clear that we will not agree a separate deal for NUJ members in excess of the award for all colleagues; and we mainta")
