Jay, a gardener comrade of mine, often remarked that he associated sadness with this day because, after the first day of summer, the hours of daylight get shorter and shorter with each passing day.nnBut the first day of WINTER, which is a day in which the sun shine shines for the least amount of hours, is followed by days that are a bit longer (in terms of sunlight) with each passing day!
